Driver: Rising adoption in the field of epigenetics

CRISPR and Cas genes enable targeted manipulation of epigenetic marks that help in studying the relationship between epigenomic and transcriptional control. They also allow precise control over cell phenotype. Increased use of CRISPR to shape epigenetic processes regulating gene expression is expected to fuel demand for the technology. Rise in the interest of bioresearches to study epigenetic processes and understand gene expression to gain insights into correlation with mental health, heart diseases, cancer, and the aging process pronounces epigenetics to play a critical role in solving major public health problems. Moreover, millions of epigenetic markers are identified that rely on statistical association with gene expression. The earlier known gene editing tools, i.e., ZFNs and TALENs could be used for deacetylation, demethylation, and histone methylation, but no method existed for target histone acetylation. Histone acetylation is strongly associated with regulatory and gene enhancer elements that can be efficiently targeted using CRISPR and Cas genes. Using this technology, researchers have gained unprecedented control over specific promotor or enhancer genes.
