Control Method Insight

Biological, chemical, mechanical & physical, and cultural are the major approaches adopted in the IPM program. Among these methods, the chemical approach dominated the market in 2016. The method uses pesticides for the prevention and control of insects. Growing awareness about the harmful effect of pesticides and stringent regulations regarding its sale & usage is expected to be a major factor for the decrease in the demand of chemical approach over the forecast period. In the program, pesticides are used only when they are a need for its usage or in combination with other methods. The biological control approach segment is expected to be the fastest-growing segment over the forecast period. The approach uses natural enemies to control the pest and their damage. The cultural control helps in the reduction of incest establishment, survival, reproduction, and dispersal. These are achieved in various ways for instance by the change in irrigation practices, which can reduce pest problems as too much water can increase root disease and weeds. The major goal of the method is to change the condition or behavior of the host to suppress or prevent the pest. The approach disturbs normal host and pest relationship, which makes them less likely to reproduce, grow, or survive. Sanitation and cultural practices are some of the cultural control used.

The mechanical and physical controls blocks or kills the pest directly and make the environment unsuitable for them. The method involves the usages of mulch agricultural films for weed, barriers to keen insects or bird out, or steam sterilization of the soil for disease management. Traps, screens, fences, nets, and barriers are some of the other devices used to prevent and remove them from the area.

Application Insight

The agricultural segment is the major application for the IPM industry. The application segment accounted for over 31% of the overall market in 2016. Companies present in the market are investing in the development of various products and approaches to control the problems caused by insects and various diseases for different crop types. Usage of different products and methods instead of harmful chemicals for protecting crops against pests is expected to boost application control approaches in the segment.

The market for IPM in the commercial building sector is expected to grow over the forecast period. The cost associated with its use in commercial buildings is generally lower if compared to regular control as it provides a long-term solution. The program not only control and prevent pest but also decrease moisture problem & saves energy.
