The CBD pet market is expected to grow during the forecast period. The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies received a bill (369/2021) allowing veterinarians to prescribe cannabis products. The bill requires that products be approved by Brazilian regulatory authorities or, in the case of imported products, their equivalent in the country of origin.
The bill states that products must adhere to current restrictions for human-use products if the government does not adopt separate regulations for veterinary products. Since 2014, doctors have been permitted to prescribe cannabis products for medical purposes. However, cultivation is still prohibited.
The prescription of cannabis products is allowed once a patient has completed all other available alternative treatments. Products containing more than 0.2 percent THC can only be recommended for supportive care to patients who have no other therapeutic options and are in an irreversible or terminal clinical condition.
