The expansion of the German data center cooling market can be attributed to the multiple establishments of green data centers by government and private organizations. For example, in February 2023, LEW TelNet, the German IT company, constructed a new data center in Augsburg.
Last week, the telecom operator revealed its intentions to invest EUR 30 million (USD 32 million) for the construction of a new green data center in the Bavarian city. The LEW Green Data Center, to be constructed on Oskar-von-MillerStrasse, is expected to be completed in two stages and consists of four data center modules totaling 1,900 sqm (20,450 sq ft), with a capacity of about 600 racks and 2MW of power.
Air-to-air heat exchangers, UPS systems with kinetic energy storage in place of batteries, waste heat recovery, and a 2.5MWp photovoltaic system are among the features of the facility, which will be powered by regional hydropower from the parent firm LEW TelNet GmbH. The facility's PUE will be 1.2 when it operates.
