To meet the needs of increasing population and control cannabis cultivation in the country, Germany imported medical marijuana from other countries.
However, in 2019, three companies, namely Aurora Produktions GmbH, Aphria Deutschland GmbH, and Demecan GmbH, received licenses from BfArM to produce cannabis in the country. This legalization of medical cannabis in the country has proved to be lucrative for medical cannabis producers.
Presence of a large population and high demand for medical cannabis products in the country have made Germany the most lucrative market in the world. Furthermore, since the legalization of medical cannabis, nearly 1,000 patients have been prescribed medical marijuana in Germany and this number increased to around 30,000 to 50,000, according to the 2019 report by Bank of Montreal.
