The development of lightweight aircraft that reduce fuel overheads of airlines is of paramount importance for the aerospace industry. Thus, a small reduction in the weight of aircraft turns out to be highly cost-effective for airlines during the operational life of their aircraft. Aerospace plastics possess excellent strength-to-weight ratios and hence, are used to minimize the weight of aircraft. The costs of fuels used in aircraft are soaring worldwide owing to the spike in Brent crude oil prices. Fuels account for shares ranging from 20% to 25% of the operational airlines costs according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Hence, the surge in aircraft fuel prices can lead aircraft manufacturers to utilize plastics to reduce fuel consumption.
