Irradiation apparatus market is expected to experience growth due to technology upgrading, increasing its demand in the pharmaceutical and medical industries. One such advancement is uniform width on irradiation (linear welding), which is made possible by laser beam and rotary laser irradiation apparatus. The development of portable irradiation apparatus has made it possible to combat the price restraints and has expanded its use in industries and hospitals. X-ray irradiation helps security in case of terrorist attacks, metal detection, and body scanner. Irradiation apparatus has the capability of producing ionizing radiation in the form of X-rays, high speed neutrons, electrons, gamma rays, and alpha–beta particles. Apparatus such as X-ray, accelerator electron, and linear accelerators have wide applications in dental, podiatric diagnosis, medical, veterinary and research purposes, and medical and research industries.

Irradiation apparatus market is segmented on the basis of its usage such as diagnostic purposes, therapeutic purposes, dental purposes, chiropractic diagnostic purposes, and industrial and research applications. In the Radiology Society of North America (RSNA) annual meeting, researchers presented on phase-contrast CT, which as compared to conventional absorption based X-ray imaging offered higher contrast in weakly absorbing tissue (breast cancer tissues). There have been recent advancements in computed tomography sophistication such as phase-contrast CT, cone-beam CT, iterative reconstruction algorithms, portable CT, dual-energy CT, and extreme multi-detector CT. The U.S. National Library of Medicine established the application of cone-beam CT in angiography, where it gives information about the site of collaterals and occlusion, non-contrast enhanced images to exclude hemorrhage, and perfusion parametric images. Model-based algorithm reduces the radiation dose in CT scans, improves spatial and contrast resolutions, and decreases image noise against traditional Filtered Back Projection (FBP) algorithm. Dual-energy CT characterizes the tissue composition to a better extent as compared to single-energy techniques, where it is has renal applications (renal stones), adrenal applications, hepatic applications (lesion conspicuity and assessment), biliary applications (gallstones), pancreatic applications (lesion conspicuity), and bowel applications (colonography). As compared to axial anatomic viewing, extreme multi-detector CT enables non-orthogonal, multi-planar, coronal, and sagittal image viewing, which enables the scientist to dynamically adjust the viewing orientation and interpret accurately. On March 2014, the U.S. National Library of Medicine established the use of micro-beam irradiation for brain tumor assisted by carbon nanotube X-ray source.

Based on geography, the irradiation apparatus market is segmented into North America, Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America, and MEA. North America accounted for the largest market share due to the key player existence and increasing demand due to technological advancements. In the U.S., the Small Business Administration (SBA) has granted waiver for the non-manufacturer rule for irradiation equipment manufacturing, where the waiver would allow a regular dealer to supply products under federal contract to domestic manufacturer. In Europe, the most prominent factor for growth is upgrading of technology. Government in Asia Pacific is taking various initiatives to support this market and also increasing its applications in the pharmaceutical industry.

Major players of the irradiation apparatus market include Varian Medical Systems Inc., Fujifilm Holdings Corporation, Siemens Healthcare, Carestream Health Inc., Toshiba America Medical Systems Inc., Hitachi Ltd., Ziehm Imaging Inc., and Agfa-Gevaert N.V. Fujifilm’s new proprietary technology called Irradiation Side Sampling (ISS) method reduce X-ray scattering, thus, improving the Modular Transfer Fusion (MTF). Carestream VUE Cardio, a single Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) workspace, gives remote access to clinicians for faster image diagnosis, reporting, storage, and distribution. In September 2014, Carestream Health was awarded USD 196,140 contract by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) for X-ray equipment and supplies. To expand its presence, on February 2015, Ziehm Imaging Inc. had selected Trumpf Medical as its distribution partner for French. For the German medical technology, France is the major buyer and with this strategic distribution partnership Ziehm Imaging plans to develop future market share. In the European Congress of Radiology (ECR), Ziehm presented its comprehensive C-arm portfolio, which is the world’s only flat-panel technology. Atos and Siemens are planning to expand their alliance in the field of cyber security, advanced data analytical, and device connectivity, therefore, increasing demand of the irradiation apparatus market.
