Report Overview

The U.S. emergency medical services (EMS) products market size was valued at USD 8.08 billion in 2016. It is expected to rise at a CAGR of 7.2% during the forecast period. Spiraling demand for emergency care, rising incidence of trauma, and increasing healthcare spending are among the key trends stoking market growth.

U.S. EMS products market size

Trauma injuries are severe physical injuries and sudden occurrence of these injures require quick medical attention. As per the U.S. American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, it is the leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 1 to 45 and the fourth leading cause of death for all ages. The association also reported that in the U.S., over 3.0 million non-fatal injuries occur every year and leads to over 150,000 deaths per year.

Besides, as per the CDC, traumatic brain injury is the major cause of disability and death in the U.S., accounting for 30.0% of all injury-related deaths. A high number of cases of disability and deaths due to trauma is anticipated to bolster the growth of the market.

Increasing healthcare spending is another factor influencing market dynamics positively. In the U.S., the National Health Expenditure Accounts (NHEA) officially estimates the total healthcare spending. It measures government administration, investment related to health care, the total budget for health insurance, healthcare products and services, and public health activities.

The NHEA reported that in 2016, the healthcare spending of the U.S. increased by 4.3%, reaching USD 3.3 trillion, which is USD 10,348 per person. Rising healthcare spending in the country is estimated to improve the quality of emergency medical services to enhance health outcomes.

Resuscitation systems are used to provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to victims of cardiac arrest. It is also used to provide intermittent positive-pressure ventilation (IPPV) and continuous oxygen inhalation therapy in case of an emergency. The emergency resuscitation system also includes diagnostic & surgical items, small oxygen cylinder, manual suction apparatus, manual resuscitator, and automatic ventilator.

The segment contributed a little over one-third of the overall market revenue in 2016. The growth of the segment can be attributed to rising awareness about life support services among patients and the easy availability of technologically advanced equipment & trained personnel.

The fire department dominated the market in 2016. Fire departments are the first responders and attend casualties at the accident sites. They also carry EMS products to provide first aid. The equipment carried by the fire department includes Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), stretchers, and wound care consumables such as bandages, cotton wool, dressings, swabs, and tapes.

U.S. EMS products market share

It has battery operated stretcher to lift patients and is equipped with all ambulance necessities.
