Industry Overview

The demand for industrial paper, packaging paper, and household paper is on the rise in Southeast Asia due to economic development, leading to an increased need for paper products. One key player driving this growth is Nine Dragons Paper (Holdings), known as the world's top maker of paper products. The company has been expanding its presence in Southeast Asia, particularly in Malaysia, where it has established a base paper factory capable of producing significant volumes of base paper for cardboard annually. Nine Dragons Paper has made substantial investments in the region, acquiring and investing in paper mills in Vietnam and Malaysia to enhance its production capacity.

Some of the major Chinese organizations including China Packaging Federation (CPF), China Federation of Industrial Economics, China National Light Industry Council, China Circular Economy Association, China Express Association, China Packaging Co., Ltd., China Packaging Research and Testing Center, China Export Commodity Packaging Research Institute, and Chinese Taipei Corrugated Case Association (CTCCA) are together supporting the dominating share and growth of the China corrugated board market.

China was the largest importer of recovered paper and old corrugated containerboards as of 2020, wherein it is used as a raw material for the manufacturing of new containerboards that are used for making corrugated boards. With new environmental regulations levied by the Chinese government in 2021, the imports of these materials have reduced substantially and are expected to become negligible in the near future.
