A  automotive fuel tank is a necessary component of a vehicle’s fuel system that holds diesel or gasoline fuel powering the vehicle’s engine. As there is an increase in population, economic growth, and development in infrastructure vehicle production is growing. The market for automobile fuel tanks is affected by several elements, such as the demand for vehicles, requirements for fuel efficiency, environmental constraints, and advancements in technology.

As there is an increase in the automotive industry and companies involved in the manufacturing of vehicles and different parts such as bodies and engines of motor vehicles, the need for the fuel tank will likely grow in the future and it will boost the automotive fuel tank market. In addition to that, to decrease fuel emissions and improve the performance of the vehicles the automotive industry is developing lightweight vehicles. The traditional fuel tanks are replaced by plastic fuel tanks made from High-density Polyethylene (HDPE) material which are lightweight and can be converted to various sizes and shapes by improving fuel economy and increasing the demand for fuel tanks. For instance, in January 2021, TI Fluid Systems supplier of automotive fluid systems technology announced it will provide plastic fuel tanks for hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) with Volkswagen motor manufacturing company to resist cyclic pressure up to 400 mbar.

An aluminum fuel tank is used in different types of vehicles, such as trucks, cars, boats, and airplanes. The aluminum fuel tank is durable, lightweight, and resistant to corrosion. The aluminum fuel tank is easy to transport & handle and less prone to leaking and cracking, which helps to reduce the risk of explosion or fire. A steel fuel tank is used for storing diesel, gasoline, and other fuels. These tanks are made from high-strength steel, which can withstand corrosive effects and prevent leakage. These tanks vary in different shapes and sizes, depending on the use and amount of fuel to store. Steel fuel tanks are expensive and heavier than other options. A plastic fuel tank is made from High-density polyethylene (HDPE) material. Plastic fuel tanks are lightweight and can be molded in different shapes. These tanks are lighter and improve fuel economy and reduce vehicle weight. The fuel tank is dependent on the vehicle’s fuel efficiency, use, and size. A fuel tank capacity in-between 45-70 liters is for small to mid-sized vehicles. The fuel tank capacity depends on the model and making of the vehicle. A fuel tank capacity above 70 liters is for large vehicles such as trucks, SUVs, and luxury cars. The larger fuel tank in vehicles may result in decreased fuel efficiency.

The COVID-19 pandemic had a negative impact on the automotive fuel tank market. Due to lockdown and social distancing measures, the demand for automotive fuel tanks decreased. The need for vehicles decreased due to travel restrictions and lockdowns. The automobile industry faced challenges due to a reduction in sales, supply of parts, and shutdown of production facilities.
