The global data acquisition hardware market is anticipated to witness surging growth owing to increasing data monitoring requirements worldwide. Data acquisition (DAQ) systems are used to collect data from various instruments and sensors located in remote industrial sites. The data is further transmitted to a central site for control and monitoring purposes. Data acquisition (DAQ) hardware consists of sensors, signal conditioning circuitry, and analog-to-digital converters. Sensors are used to convert physical parameters into electrical signals. Signal conditioning circuitry converts sensor signals to digital values. Analog-to-digital converters are used for analog to digital conversion and vice-versa. Further, developments related to plug-in data acquisition cards may drive the market over the forecast period. Reducing data acquisition board size may also contribute to the augmentation of the market. Additionally, increasing use of the equipment for strategic decision-making is expected to favor the market.

Increasing requirements to analyze real-time data for control purposes may drive market development. Additionally, growing industrial automation requirements are anticipated to contribute to market expansion over the forecast period. Growing number of industrial sites being set up in remote locations resulting in increasing central monitoring requirements is projected to drive the data acquisition hardware market worldwide. Further, growing investments in infrastructure and renewable energy may drive the market. Increasing availability of open-source DAQ software resulting in reduced DAQ costs is anticipated to fuel market demand.

Data acquisition hardware is widely used for research and analysis, design validation and verification, manufacturing & quality test, diagnostics & repair, asset condition monitoring, and PC-based control and automation. Increasing research analysis and design activities such as characterizing new product design and modeling behavior of scientific phenomenon is expected to favor the DAQ hardware market over the forecast period. Design validation and testing include verifying product lifecycle, establishing evidence, testing for accuracy and reliability, and ensuing conformance to industry standards. Manufacturing and quality testing includes various tests such as mechanical, electrical, and environmental tests. Diagnostics and repair systems are used for identifying root cause using adhoc measurements from of machinery and automated image inspection systems. Asset conditioning and monitoring include long-term condition monitoring of equipment such as compressors and turbines to detect problems and prevent failures. Condition monitoring helps to optimize performance, prevent outages, and reduce repair costs. PC-based control systems provide handling of various machinery and processes without human interaction.

Complexities related to interfacing and software compatibility issues may pose a challenge to the data acquisition hardware market. Additionally, increasing complexity related to signal conditioning may challenge market growth. Increasing complications related to sampling rate, resolution, and accuracy of data may pose a challenge to the DAQ hardware augmentation over the forecast period.

DAQ components include remote terminal units, human-machine interface, data acquisition software, and programmable logic components. DAQ hardware is utilized across various industries such as power generation, oil & gas, manufacturing, wastewater treatment, etc.

Key contributors to the data acquisition hardware market include Siemens AG, Honeywell International Inc., Schneider Electric SA, ABB Ltd., Emerson Company, Rockwell Automation, HBM, ADwin, Alstom SA, and General Electric. HBM provides various DAQ systems such as Quantum X, Somat, Genesis high speed, MGC plus, and other specialized DAQ systems. In May 2015, HBM introduced its GEN7tA recorder and DAQ system. The system which can acquire data up to 400mb per second is anticipated to be ideal for Avionics. Avionics testing requires hundreds of channels and high sample rates. GEN7tA with a standard Ethernet interface of 1Gbit supports the streaming of data recorded directly to a PC at 100 MB per sec. The 1Gbit optical Ethernet provides isolated mainframe control and supports cable lengths up to 6.2 miles. Additionally, GEN7tA supports an optional removable solid-state disk to directly record data on external NAS.

In June 2015, ADwin launched ADwin-PRO, a real-time, DAQ, and control system. ADwin-PRO provides modular data acquisition and can be mounted on benchtop or rack-mountable enclosures. Additionally, the system provides USB or Ethernet communication options to connect with the host PC. The ADwin software environment is compatible with Windows and Linux environments. Further, the system offers programmability and development using the ADbasic and ADtools. Users of ADwin-PRO can run programs at KHz and MHz speed range. The system can also run open and closed-loop control functions and can support multiple ADwin systems access on a central PC.
