In bone cement, acrylate based plastics are also used. Other materials used in bone cement include, calcium sulphate, coralline hydroxyapatite, and calcium phosphate cements. Materials used for making bone cements should not degrade when biological environment changes due to the possibility of its detrimental effect in fractured area. Casts are made up of fibreglass or plaster with cotton embedded in it which provides padding around bones. Plaster bandages are made up of cotton bandages along with plaster of paris. Bandages of thermoplastic and knitted fibreglass bandages infused with polyurethane are also used these days. Casts are available in various designs and lengths which are suitable for specific area of application.
