The global dicyclopentadiene market size is projected to reach USD 1.8 billion by 2033, expanding at a CAGR of 5.2% from 2026 to 2033, according to Grand View Research, Inc. Market growth is supported by the broad use of DCPD as a key feedstock and reactive intermediate in unsaturated polyester resins, hydrocarbon resins, EPDM elastomers, cyclic olefin polymers, and poly-DCPD systems. Demand is increasing as manufacturers seek lightweight, durable, corrosion-resistant, and dimensionally stable materials for automotive, construction, marine, and industrial applications. Expanding production of composite components, specialty polymers, adhesives, coatings, and elastomer-based products is creating steady downstream demand. Ongoing development of high-purity DCPD, advanced resin systems, and application-specific polymer technologies is also broadening the market's application base.
The dicyclopentadiene industry’s growth is driven by its expanding use as a key raw material for unsaturated polyester resins, hydrocarbon resins, EPDM elastomers, cyclic olefin polymers, and poly-DCPD. Growing demand for lightweight, durable, and corrosion-resistant materials across automotive, construction, marine, and industrial applications is strengthening consumption. Rising adoption of DCPD-based composites and specialty polymers, combined with advances in resin formulations and high-performance materials, is creating further opportunities across downstream industries.
The polyester/UPR grade segment dominated the market, accounting for a 40.4% revenue share in 2025. Its strong position is supported by the extensive use of DCPD in unsaturated polyester resin formulations for composite products. DCPD-based UPR systems offer favorable processing characteristics, surface quality, reduced shrinkage, and durability, making them suitable for automotive parts, marine structures, construction materials, sanitaryware, and other molded products.
The construction end use segment is expected to grow at the fastest CAGR during the forecast period. Increasing adoption of DCPD-based polyester resins and composite materials in construction applications such as pipes, tanks, panels, sanitaryware, roofing components, and infrastructure products is supporting demand. The combination of lightweight properties, corrosion resistance, dimensional stability, and processing flexibility makes DCPD-based materials attractive for applications requiring long service life and resistance to demanding environments.
Asia Pacific dominated the global dicyclopentadiene industry, accounting for a 56.5% revenue share in 2025. The region's large petrochemical manufacturing base and strong downstream production of resins, elastomers, composites, and specialty polymers provide a substantial consumption base for DCPD. Expanding automotive manufacturing, construction activity, infrastructure investment, and composite-material production across major Asian economies are supporting regional demand.

The market growth is driven by growing demand for high-performance resins, elastomers, composites, and specialty polymers across major industrial sectors. Manufacturers are increasingly using DCPD-based materials where lightweight construction, durability, corrosion resistance, dimensional stability, and efficient processing are required.
By grade, the hydrocarbon resins segment is expected to grow at the fastest CAGR of 6.1% during the forecast period. Growth is supported by increasing use of DCPD as a feedstock for cyclo-aliphatic and C5/C9 hydrocarbon resins, which are widely used in adhesives, coatings, printing inks, and rubber-related formulations. DCPD-based resins provide properties such as good compatibility, thermal stability, adhesion, and tack, supporting their adoption in performance-oriented formulations
The North America dicyclopentadiene industry is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.6% during the forecast period. The region benefits from established petrochemical infrastructure and availability of DCPD-rich feedstocks, alongside strong downstream demand for hydrocarbon resins, unsaturated polyester resins, specialty polymers, and composites. Growing applications across automotive, construction, adhesives, coatings, and industrial manufacturing are expected to support regional consumption.
In October 2022, ORLEN Group launched a new dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) production unit at its Litvínov plant in the Czech Republic, with annual production capacity of up to 26,000 tonnes. The facility uses separation technology developed jointly by ORLEN Unipetrol and the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, to recover DCPD from secondary hydrocarbons generated during petrochemical operations. The new capacity expands ORLEN’s DCPD portfolio and supplies material with 80%–94% purity for polymeric materials, resins, adhesives, inks, paints, wind-turbine blades, automotive components, construction products, and electrical applications.
