Electronic devices emits both magnetic and electrical energy by means of radiation and conduction, but there are some forms of energy or waves which can create critical impact on the functionality of devices. This effect is known as electromagnetic interference (EMI) or radio frequency interference (RFI). For instance, in September 2017, Henkel launched 2 metal inks for EMI shielding applications. These inks can provide shielding effectiveness as pure metals and can be used for in semiconductor packaging applications.

The material can be used for applications such as electronic passports, cell phones, circuit boards, credit cards, antennas, actuated chips, grounding tapes and electronic toll passes.
In October 2020, Nanotech Energy Inc. introduced a new product line for EMI shielding applications. The company launched six products based on graphene material, wherein all products provide EMI shielding and protect the malfunctioning devices. Out of six one product is Elite Armour Paint, a conductive paint made using copper and silver for thin coating applications.
